About Facilitator

Cici Osias (b. Baltimore, MD) is a textile artist based in Brooklyn, New York. Her work draws upon African American, Congolese, Haitian and Nigerian motifs to make meaning of her identity and hold her people close.

Cici was a 2026 artist in residence at the Haiti Cultural Exchange and the Textile Arts Center.

Objective

Join us for a moment of collective stitching as we practice appliqué quilting techniques and share stories. All are welcome, whether you’ve never picked up a needle before or you’re a quilter extraordinaire.

This workshop will offer a moment to slow down and be in each other’s presence. We will learn from one another and about one another.

The theme of this season of Nature School is preservation. As we stitch, we will reflect upon what memories fabric holds for each of us, and what we hope to remember.

What’s Included:

  • Fabric, needles, thread, scissors, seam rippers and batting/stuffing will all be provided.

What To Bring

  • Optional: Feel free to bring any fabrics that you wish to incorporate into your quilted piece.

Requirements:

No quilting experience required! Quilters of all levels are welcome.

Disclaimer:

This workshop will be focused on learning and connection, rather than leaving with a completed piece.
