Objective

Join Field Meridians and Alfreda’s Cinema for a special screening of Field Meridians: A Growing Community, an experimental documentary that follows the creation of an artist-led collective in Crown Heights, Brooklyn, where education, nature, and self-sufficiency intertwine to cultivate a resilient, environmentally conscious community.

The film was originally commissioned for Field Meridians’ activation of MoMA’s Creativity Lab on the occassion of Otobong Nkanga’s monumental, site-specific installation, Cadence.

Short Synopsis:
In the heart of Crown Heights, Brooklyn, Field Meridians: A Growing Community chronicles the evolution of a dynamic collective founded by LinYee Yuan. Driven by her vision for a nurturing environment for her children, Yuan launched the Nature School initiative to foster community through hands-on, nature-based learning. The film blends intimate personal stories with collective efforts in urban gardening, permaculture, and ecological responsibility, offering a visual exploration of a community rooted in resilience and sustainable growth. Through mixed media and personal narratives, the documentary immerses viewers in a journey of environmental stewardship, personal growth, and the power of shared purpose.
