About the Facilitators
Juan’s extensive research on making microscopic worlds visible intertwines with Micaela’s latest dance explorations of spontaneity, forced actions, and constrictions. Both are Chilean multimedia artists from Museo del Hongo, a pop-up museum that creatively merges art, mycology, and technology.
Objective
This observation and movement workshop explores the symbiotic relationship between fungal mycelium and plant roots, the mycorrhiza. These underground ancient associations have an essential function in maintaining ecological health and plant vitality. Typical mycorrhizal functions of transmission, sheathing, and coiling, among others, will serve as inspiration for body movements, performed individually and in groups along the workshop.
A walk through Brower Park will serve as a base to study three types of mycorrhizal interactions present in different species there. Participants will discover how these microscopic organisms intertwine in their different ways, translating scientific observation into somatic expression. Suitable for all levels, the workshop encourages participants to connect deeply with nature, developing a personal understanding of ecological symbiosis through movement and reflection.
