About Facilitator

Megumi Shauna Arai is a Japanese-Jewish artist based in New York City. Her practice is inspired by abstraction, craft, and the experience of betweenness with a particular interest in literal and metaphorical borders and the notion of belonging.

Objective

In line with Field Meridian’s commitment to inviting the act of noticing into our day to day and cultivating a sense of belonging in central Brooklyn, this workshop will intertwine ecology through a walking meditation in Brower Park with tactile making as a communicative form of experience. With guidance and instruction, each participant will get to share their walking experience through patchwork, applique and sewing. What happens when we intentionally take time away from technology and the to-do list to focus on our breath, our step and the elements around us? How does this experience connect to creativity and inspiration? Does this exercise open us to the possibility for a new experience in our relationship to place?
